I have always believed in the power of narrative.
As a kid, me and my sisters were tucked into bed every night with a story. The story that I heard most often, and can still re-tell to this day, was about a poor man who could barely feed his family, until the day he accidentally struck oil and moved everyone to Hollywood.
Interesting story to tell young daughters before they sleep, right?
It wasn't until years later that I learned my dad was just singing the theme song to The Beverly Hillbillies.
Somewhere between the oil well and Hollywood, I learned that a good story makes people forget they are being told one. That's exactly the kind of copy I write.
I'm a proud Longhorn who decided to stick around Austin, Texas because I just couldn't get enough of the Weird. My South Florida roots are apparent whenever fried gator is on the menu or a Florida Man is in the news - I'm excited for either. I love digging around the dustiest corner of a Goodwill, reading historical fiction, and sitting in the sun wearing a floppy hat.
